Pi Beta Phi's Literacy Vision
“Pi Beta Phi is dedicated to philanthropic and community service efforts that will remove the barrier of illiteracy.”

Why Literacy?

bullet People who can read tend to be more successful and have more earning capacity.
bullet Literate parents set their children up for successful and healthy lives.
bullet Illiteracy is a factor in the rate of homelessness, domestic abuse, poverty, lack of healthcare, etc.
bullet Illiteracy affects the quality of life for individuals and their families!

Pi Beta Phi's Commitment to Literacy

bullet Pi Phi’s connection to literacy dates back almost 100 years to the founding of a Settlement School in Gatlinburg, Tennessee. Through education, Pi Phi’s influenced the development of an entire local government, economy and the health and well-being of citizens. Literacy and education proved to be a very powerful tool.   To learn more about this original establishment, arrowmont, click the link to the Pi Beta Phi website.  http://pibetaphi.org/philanthropies/arrowmont.html
